No space PvE in the forseeable future v732x

An interesting debate was started on the Damion Schubert, Andrew Horwitz, and Eric Musco at a recent Community Cantina event that not going to happen.

I asked him about the possibility that the current, that Galactic Starfighter was designed with PvE in mind. He said no, it was not. That is far far far far far down on the wall of crazy, is PvE Starfighter. He said the biggest problems would be with scripting and 3D AI; things that they dont have in the game they would basically have to write fresh.

The good thing about PvE is the good scripting. Getting the ability in at the right Galactic starfighter. So thats upsetting, I’m not happy about that, I wish that we could, but its understandable. And hopefully they make a good system with the Galactic Starfighter.

As always this started a shit storm on the forums:

Well, wow. This is like a big middle finger to the PvErs.

I can’t see why players should being too upset about the absence of PvE plans, especially given that the long-awaited off-rails dogfighter sounds perfect as a PvP addition. I’m mostly a PvE sort of guy in most mmos my self. That’s just how I roll, but this and sentiments like it are just mind bogglingly insane.

Like 90% of the damn game is PvE. Sure, I’d love some free flight space PvE, but come on folks. More PvP is just fine.

Also, dogfights with AI are okay and all, but they will never be as challenging, rewarding, or satisfying as a dogfight with other humans.

Note, however, that they didn’t say it would never happen. They said it would be a big project that would require a lot of work from the ground up.

While the desire for a reboot of X-Wing or TIE Fighter is strong, it’s probably a bit much to expect the team to create one inside of an existing MMO. You can see the announcement trailer for Galactic Starfighter below.
